Today I’ll leave home for a few days with some of my best friends. Our target: the beautiful Appletree Garden Festival in Diepholz. The festival exists since 2001 and I’ll be there for the fifth time this year. Like every year I’m really looking forward to camping on a really peaceful camping site, relaxed and kind people (even the securities used to be kind to me) and of course a lot of good artists.
The festival starts today with three pre-festival shows on the camping site. Mighty Oaks and Roosevelt are two of the acts today, that I’m really looking forward to.
On Friday there’ll be Kakkmaddafakka of course as the headliner of the day, but also bands like Efterklang, When The Saints Go Machine and Ewert And The Two Dragons used to be great live-acts. My more or less secret tips for that day: german Singer-Songwriter Honig and the New Orleans duo Generationals, whose song When they fight, they fight is present everywhere.
On Saturday Shout Out Louds will headline the program, which has a lot of pearls to explore: BRNS from Belgium, The/Das from Berlin and SOHN from London and Vienna are only some of the hidden secrets on the festival. My absolute Highlight will Mikhael Paskalev though. Beautiful pop music from Sweden with the special something.
For your inspiration I’ve added some videos of the artists below. Check them out and if you like them, you’ll have a problem: the festival is SOLD OUT since weeks. Congratulations to the festivals’ makers. You did a great job!
Internet folk: see you on monday. If you want to stay up-to-date, make sure you follow me on Twitter and Instagram.

La Huida – The Runaway (HD version with English subtitles) from Victor Carrey on Vimeo.
Víctor Carrey, the director of Efterklang‘s The Ghost, created a beautifully filmed and really interesting short film called The Runaway (Original title: La Huida). The movie tells the story of a 50€ bank note and how it got to where it is. This all seems strongly inspired by films of Wes Anderson, starting by the camera angles over story telling and even the characters got that typical Anderson strangeness. Best short film I’ve seen lately.
Mount Kimbie: You Took Your Time on Nowness.com.
I love the voice of King Krule and I love the music of Mount Kimbie. This feature of these artists fits in perfectly. Slowed down with the typical King Krule reverb on the voice the song is the right choice for the short film made by the swedish photographer and director Marcus Söderlund.
Supported by VW Sound Foundation I heard of MEGA! MEGA! about two years ago and it didn’t take a long time and we booked them for our festival in 2011. It’s the kind of fresh and dirty sound combined with the partly explicit german lyrics, which makes MEGA! MEGA! an act to have on your radar. Three days ago their first EP called Die Nerven liegen blank! was released. Four songs and a remix of Lieutenant Pumpe – every single one to kick our asses. MEGA! MEGA! one of these new german bands for 2013.
The Video above for Lieutenant Pumpe is the probably best example of the nice roughness of the band and the guy dancing in front reminds me of the guy dancing in last year’s The Black Keys video.
Grab the EP here!
Wait! Pixies? Never thought I’d post another music video of Pixies here again, but obviously the band hast some new stuff to publish. Bagboy tells the story of a boy who really did it: hey chained another guy and made his house an adventure park. Playing the drums on porcellain plates, taking a fruit loops milk bath, throwing around toilet paper – the complete program. A real masterpiece thinking of how the fresh sound of the song and the awesome pictures of the video directed by Lamar+Nik work together.

Great Video for White Lies‘ There Goes Our Love Again. Quite gatsbyesque I’d say. Some snobbish guy watching a classical dance performance, while the band performs the song on stage. Well done!
